The Amber Flag is an initiative of Pieta House to promote positive mental health in schools around the country. By running a range of events that raise funds and awareness, the school's Amber Flag committee aims to secure the 2022 flag to display proudly outside Dunamase College.
The committee is student-led, with representatives from all year groups meeting once a week, and tasks delegated among different members. Membership of the committee not only benefits the entire school community: it teaches valuable organisational, communication and leadership skills for every individual involved.
Success in receiving the Amber Flag
After several years of dedication and commitment to promoting positive mental health throughout the school, the Amber Flag Committee have finally achieved their goal of receiving the Amber Flag. Throughout the year, they have organized multiple events such as Daffodil Day and Denim for Dementia and a total of 4 fundraisers. As well as these events the committee united the school during Friendship Week and also held a Teacher Appreciation Day. The committee and school is delighted to have received the flag in recognition of the hard work that has gone on in relation to promoting positive mental health among our school community.
