Teaching, Learning and Assessment
At Dunamase College teaching and learning are at the heart of our school community. Our approach to teaching and learning is modelled on best practice and is informed by Department of Education and Skills policy and practice. Each subject department is represented on the school’s SSE committees, which brings teachers together to work collaboratively, sharing best practice and developing expertise.
The SSE committees have launched various initiatives which enhance teaching and learning across the school. Academic Tracking, Active Learning strategies and the development of Assessment for Learning methodologies are just an example of the initiatives which have been promoted by the SSE committees. The committees meets several times a year to evaluate the effectiveness of our initiatives and to assess areas of further improvement. We continually review our initiatives following School Self-Evaluation guidelines.
SSE (School Self-Evaluation)
SSE is a structured process used in schools to reflect on and improve teaching and learning and overall school performance. SSE involves schools evaluating their own practices using evidence gathered from a variety of sources. This evidence is used to identify strengths, highlight areas of improvement, and create an action plan to address those areas.
This reflective and evidence-based approach was used throughout 2024/2025 to help enhance the quality of education, by building on the strengths of the school and address any challenges. In 2024/2025, each subject department highlighted the targets for the year, discussed the criteria for success, the progress throughout the year and whether the targets were achieved at the end of the year. One of our targets was to embed a 3P's classroom charter into all classrooms.
3P's Classroom Charter
Our whole school focus at Dunamase College is embedding our classroom charter of the 3P's (Prepared, Polite, Productive) into daily school life.
